Menlo Systems FC1500-250-ULN: Enabling SI-traceable frequency dissemination
(Figure adapted from original publication)
Ultrastable time and frequency networks are being set up throughout Europe and all over the world. It has been shown that the most stable and accurate clock signals can be distributed from specialized labs to other users. Recently, the national metrology institute of Switzerland in Bern, METAS, transmitted an ultrastable Hertz-level laser with long-term stability and absolute accuracy given by Menlo Systems FC1500-250-ULN Ultra Low-Noise Optical Frequency Comb referenced to a hydrogen maser to the ETH in Zurich and the University of Basel. At both of these institutes, ultra-low-noise combs from Menlo Systems were used to convert the telecom signal to other frequencies necessary for their particular experiments. This enables experiments at remote sites referenced to SI-units and precision that can only be realized with expensive and care-intensive equipment like hydrogen maseres, cesium clocks, or even optical clocks.
