THz Workshop: University of Cambridge & Menlo Systems
This summer, we held the inaugural THz Workshop at the University of Cambridge, bringing together researchers and industry professionals with an interest in THz technology and THz time-domain spectroscopy for a day of talks and live demonstrations.
The workshop opened with an introduction to the fundamentals of THz and the building blocks of THz time-domain spectroscopy, followed by two guest lectures. The first, from Philip Taday of TeraView, was entitled “Real-World Experiences in the Application of Terahertz Waves.” The second, from Axel Zeitler from the University of Cambridge, was on “Transforming Drug Development and Manufacturing with Terahertz Technology.”
The afternoon moved into the laboratory, for live demonstrations and hands-on sessions, with participants invited to bring their own samples for testing. The day closed with a group dinner and a walk around Cambridge.
The feedback on the workshop was overwhelmingly positive.
The Terahertz Workshop hosted by Menlo in Cambridge gave an eye-opening insight into the power of THz spectroscopy in an atmosphere of honest, open scientific discussion which could not have been improved. The social gathering in the evening, finished with an impromptu group walk around beautiful Cambridge, was the perfect end to a brilliant day.
